With over 20 years of combined experience working in interscholastic, collegiate, and professional sports, Andrea and Ira Childress are passionate about helping student-athletes and professionals succeed in athletic competition, in the classroom, and in their careers. From career coaching to social media training to recruiting education, Childress Sports Consulting provides a comprehensive but focused array of services. Together, they are a dynamic duo — passionate about people, passionate about sports, and serious about the success of each client they connect with.
Prior to founding Childress Sports Consulting, Ira Childress began his career in athletics as a sports broadcaster and journalist, covering events such as the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, and MLB World Series. He transitioned his affinity for athletics into an administrative career at alma mater Ferris State University – earning three promotions in five years – before advancing to the NCAA National Office. As the Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Affairs at the NCAA, his work provided innovative programming that helped shape the careers of hundreds of NCAA coaches, administrators, and student-athletes. He also served as the key administrator for joint programs with the NFL. Childress is an award-winning event organizer and has received multiple accolades from National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He has also served as a high school athletic director at one of the premier high schools in the state of Michigan. Ira received his B.S. in Applied Speech Communication and M.S. in Education from Ferris State University, where he was a student-athlete on FSU’s last Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship football team.
Andrea Childress’ career in the athletic industry launched at her alma mater, Illinois State University. She served as Director of Student-Athlete Development Programs and as Assistant Director of the Karin L. Bone Athletic Study Center. During her tenure at ISU, Andrea implemented engaging career, academic and personal development programs for 400+ student-athletes. She was selected as a facilitator for the 2010 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum and participated in the inaugural NFL-NCAA Life Skills/Player Development Summit. Also at the campus level, Andrea coordinated academic and life skills programs for Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Women’s Tennis at the University of Detroit Mercy Athletic Department and DePaul University. A lifelong learner, Andrea has pursued a myriad of professional development opportunities from the NCAA, U.S. Olympic Committee, National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA), N4A, and more. She earned a Graduate Certificate in Ethical Leadership and Change Management from the University of Detroit Mercy, preceded by a B.S. in Exercise Science and an M.S. in Sports Management from Illinois State. At Illinois State, Andrea was an NCAA National Championship qualifier in the 400m Hurdles on the Redbird Track & Field squad.
